Can you run Warframe?
Updated March 18, 2021 By Cliff Henjum
Despite being nearly 8 years old now, the cooperative third person shooter, Warframe, is still one of the most popular PC games on the market. This is due to a number of factors, but the three that stand out to us are the facts that it’s free to play, it’s insanely fun and addictive, and it has a really low entry point for hardware requirements. This 35 GB game only needs an Intel Core 2 Duo E6400 or an AMD Athlon 64 X2 4000+ for its CPU. For your GPU, the devs only want you to have a DX11 capable card - something like an Intel HD Graphics 4000, GeForce GT 440 or a Radeon HD 5500. Throughout its existence, the system requirements have needed to be updated as the game has added and refined tons of new content so make sure your rig can still run it.
Can I run Warframe on my computer?

One of the most consistently popular games on Steam over the years has been the free-to-play cooperative third person action game, Warframe. Originally released way back on March 25, 2013, Digital Extremes has continued to provide numerous updates to the free-to-play Destiny clone. Although it was originally launched as a PC exclusive, it has since been ported over to PS4, Xbox One, and even the Nintendo Switch. It wasn’t always large player counts and fun times though - Warframe’s initial launch was as rocky as they come. However, after a series of major updates, Digital Extremes righted the ship and created an addictive game with loads of content.
Part of the reason it’s so addictive is the beautifully intertwined melee and gun combat with a TON of upgrade options through weapons, abilities, and Warframes. Because it is a free-to-play game, there is definitely a grind associated with some aspects of the game that can otherwise be sped up with real money. Warframe is definitely playable without spending a single dime and offers another advantage over its competitors, like Destiny 2 and The Division 2, with its extremely low system requirements. Even older computers and laptops can help you and the Tenno in their ongoing war efforts.
Players can look to run Warframe on their PC if they have at least a GeForce 8600 GT or Radeon HD 3600 in their GPU slot. The GeForce 8600 GT is a 12 year-old card and will only run 47% of today’s games, but lucky for you, Warframe is one of those gems. These specs are significantly lower than the system requirements for Destiny 2 New Light (the upcoming free-to-play update for Destiny 2), so players with older computers will still gravitate towards Warframe. The required CPU test is also super easy to pass - only a Core 2 Duo E6400 or Athlon 64 4000+ is needed. Warframe only lists one set of specs so we are missing the hardware required to max it out. Your computer only needs 2 GB of RAM as well.
